Resources for the
Blind and Physically
Handicapped

Working with BHL librarians, the Friends of Brandywine Hundred Library are helping make our library easier for people to use. The Friends of Brandywine Hundred Library have recently given $5,000 to purchase enhance the Large Print books collection, a new wheelchair, and a ClearView magnifier. We're making the Brandywine Hundred Library better!

The recently received ClearView magnification unit allows partially sighted users to magnify and enlarge text images up to 43 times in full color at the touch of a button, making this a wonderful tool for people who need to see small details in photos, prints, or books. The Optelec web site includes a description of the product. To use the ClearView magnification unit, go to the second floor reference desk and ask for assistance.

The wheelchair is available for people who need a little help getting around in the library. Please ask library staff if it would make your visit easier.

For people who may have a hard time getting to the library or reading regular books, the Delaware Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH) is a great resource for people with disabilities. LBPH provides access to 2,000 new titles each year and currently offers over 36,000 titles. People who have registered use the LBPH online catalog to search for books. The LBPH web site includes information on how to sign up for services in Delaware. LBPH services are provided through cooperation with the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS). The NLS web site includes further information about the national network of cooperating libraries.

"Eligibility: Anyone who is unable to read or use standard printed materials as a result of temporary or permanent visual or physical limitations or reading disabilities may receive service.
